I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the Department of Computer Sciences in August 2013 and joined Google as a Software Engineer. At UW-Madison, I worked with Professor Karu Sankaralingam in the Vertical Research Group. Prior to joining UW-Madison, I received my B.S. in Engineering and B.A. in Mathematics from Swarthmore College.

Research

My research interests are in applications of analytic modeling to computer architecture performance, power, and energy projections. My work leverages detailed analyses and models of complex systems to inform the creation of new architectures. I have developed detailed multicore models to produce performance projections for future technology generations as part of work that found that the role of computer architects today is to find new uses for dark silicon. Further, I developed new analyses that found that fundamental performance, energy, and power differences between ISAs are limited, and opportunities lie in the development of extensions designed for energy-efficiency.

In my thesis work, I developed a unified model for data-parallel architectures that can be used to find the best style of data-parallelism (e.g., SIMD, multicore, GPU) for a particular workload. This use of analytic models to develop new architectures is a key component of my work.
